Fire Destroys Three Houses on Travis Street

SHREVEPORT, LA - Around 9:15pm Shreveport Fire Department crews responded to the intersection of Travis Street and Schumpert Street for reports of two houses on fire with smoke and flames visible. While crews were enroute units updated dispatch to advise of heavy smoke in the area. Upon arrival crews found one home fully involved with houses on each side also catching fire. Firefighters immediately began an exterior fire attack while crews started laying a supply line to the closest fire hydrant. A deck gun from an engine company and also a ladder truck was used to help douse the flames and reach the hard to get spots. This 1200 block of Travis Street has "shot-gun" style homes which are skinny, long and placed closely together. All homes appeared to be abandoned and in inhospitable conditions. The cause of the fire is under investigation and no injuries were reported. Signal 51 units responded and served over a bag of rehab supplies.
