Train Derails After Hitting Semi, Injuring 1 on Highway 1

CADDO PARISH, LA - Caddo Parish Fire District No. 5 along with numerous other agencies are still on scene on Highway 1 in South Caddo Parish working a train vs semi with several rail cars off the track. A nighttime operation has been setup and a crews are staging at the command post on Highway 1 and Robinson Road. Cleanup crews have been brought in and cleanup should begin shortly. Signal 51 is on scene serving refreshments and burgers to all the first responders.

Troop G Troopers & Hazmat technicians are on the scene of a #train derailment on LA 1 in Caddo Parish. LA 1 is closed from LA 509 to LA 175 in both directions. No evacuations have been ordered & there are no reports of injures.

A saltwater truck attempted to cross in front of a Union Pacific train. That caused the locomotive and 12-15 railcars to derail at the front of the train; another half dozen derailed at the rear, the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office reports. As a result, Caddo Fire District 5 personnel took the engineer to Willis-Knighton Pierremont for treatment of unknown injuries. The driver of the saltwater truck was not injured. Meantime, an 18-mile section of Louisiana Highway 1 in Caddo and Red River parishes has been shut down.
