Today, Shreveport Fire Department and Desoto Parish Fire District One (Logansport, LA) lost one of our brothers. Rusty Canton, Fire Chief of Desoto District One, served 21 years for SFD making emergency calls, serving our citizens, and saving lives and property. He was a good friend, brother, and mentor to many. I had the privilege of being in the 37th Fire Basic Training Class with Rusty whenwe came to work together in 1993. He has been my friend for 26 years. He always had a smile on his face and an encouraging word. He was highly skilled professional firefighter who made a difference serving others in Shreveport and Logansport. We will all miss him dearly. SFD extends our most sincere sympathies to his family and his Desoto Fire District One family. You all will remain in our thoughts and prayers. May God bless you and give you comfort and His peace during this time of loss. - Scott Wolverton, Fire Chief
